Havelock - North Carolina
Havelock, North Carolina is well-known in the United States as the home of the Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point. The largest Marine Air Station in the world, it was established in 1942 on the Neuse River due to the coming of World War II. (Base tours are available.) Military air traffic is frequent, and a sign near the base's main gate reads, "Pardon our noise. It's the sound of freedom."

Havelock is one of eight cities in the world named for Sir Henry Havelock, who commanded the famous Highlanders in 'The First Relief of Lucknow' in 1857.

A Civil War battle site, Havelock was the key to capturing New Bern and Fort Macon by Union forces in 1862 and provided the first major foothold in the South for the Yankees.

Havelock's Population in 2000 was 22442, a 21% growth since 1990 (in non-military population). Excellent schools, medical facilities, job opportunities, and a temperate climate in this beautiful area so rich in history, have provided residents with an excellent and attractive standard of living.

Located in eastern coastal North Carolina, Highway 70 East provides excellent access to Havelock, which is known for its marinas, golf courses, and other recreational facilities.

While in Havelock, do not miss A Day at the Farm, a historic dairy farm with old dairy barns, milking equipment, and period antiques. Hayrides are available. Croatan National Forest, home to the largest collection of carnivorous plants in any national forest is also here. It is near the northern range limit of the American Alligator and is known for its bugs. Fishermen, hunters, and hikers will appreciate the campgrounds, day-use areas, and boat launches.
